What Ramayana is

Not a summary and not a cartoon. The class follows the narrative from Ayodhya to the return, stopping where the characters face a choice, and asking what they should have done.

Character is what is left when the easy choice is taken away.

What they will learn

  • The full arc of the story, and who everyone is
  • Key shlokas and the passages worth knowing by heart
  • The choices each character faces, and what the text says about them
  • How the story is told differently across regions and languages

What the benefits are

  • A frame for thinking about loyalty, duty and difficult decisions
  • Cultural fluency at festivals, and in conversations with elders
  • Comprehension and discussion practice, in a story they want to follow

How the 45 minutes run

  1. A section of the story, told properly
  2. Discussion of the choice at its centre
  3. A shloka from the passage, learnt together
  4. A question to think about before the next class
The lifetime objective

Questions about Ramayana

Who can join Ramayana?

Anyone. Batches run at 4 to 6, 6 to 10 and 10 to 15, and adults have batches of their own, so a learner is placed by age rather than turned away by it. No prior knowledge is assumed: most learners start from nothing.

Is Ramayana taught live?

Live, always, in a small batch with the camera on. A recording cannot hear a mistake and correct it, and that correction is most of what you are paying for.

When does Ramayana run?

Saturday & Sunday, mornings at 8am and evenings at 7pm IST. We schedule around the learner's time zone rather than around Indian hours, so tell us where you are and we will place you in a batch that lands at a sensible local hour.

What will my child actually be able to do?

The full arc of the story, and who everyone is; Key shlokas and the passages worth knowing by heart; The choices each character faces, and what the text says about them. Beyond the syllabus: A shared story with every generation of their family, and a set of characters to think with when a decision is difficult.

What does Ramayana cost?

Fees depend on the batch and how often it meets. Message us on WhatsApp for the current fee list. The 30-minute trial class is free, with no payment details taken.
